Do you have social anxiety? This one's for you.
People who have red worries are often concerned with how they act in public and how others perceive them. Maybe they second guess the last thing they said, or feel nervous when interacting with other people. Reds are often uncomfortable in crowds, speaking in public, or at large parties.
Sorry there! We’re bad at our jobs!
Worries are tiny creatures who often appear to come from nowhere.
Worries aren't evil, but they are a bit bad at their job - which is to alert people to things that could be going on in their lives.
It is said that capturing or “taming” one is a great way to start dealing with the worries in your life. You can place it on a shelf next to you and tell it to “knock it off” or say that you, “got the message”, so you don’t need any more alerts.
Always remember: your Worry is merely a blind little animal that's trying to help, but is pretty bad at it. Be sure to give it, and yourself, a break.
________________
This is a real anxiety reduction technique I learned in therapy
1. Get a worry doll
2. Name it - silly names work best, like “Pancakes”
3. Place it on a shelf near you
4. When you feel anxious, turn to the doll and say something like “that’ll do Pancakes, I don’t need any alert right now.” or “it’s okay, Pancakes, I can handle this on my own”
5. You can say this mentally, verbally, or written
6. It works for a few reasons:
• You’re acknowledging that you’re feeling anxious
• But you’re declaring that you’re going to carry on regardless
• Your honoring your flight/fight system but not letting it run your day
• You're adding a bit of humor to it and that’ll lighten the load a bit.
• By mimicking caring for the doll/creature you’re caring for yourself in a way and, therefore, putting yourself in a less self critical mental state.
